Bad Ass Feminist

When you put love out in the world it travels, and it can touch people and reach people in ways that we never even expected.

Feminism isn’t about proving to men or to the world that as a woman you’re better than. Feminism isn’t just about equality, and not shaving your legs, and arguing with ignorant Twitter trolls, and being a part of the LGBTQ community, and advocating for children rights, reproductive rights, equal pay, and civil rights. Feminism is showcasing that women posses a certain kind of magic that is inspiring, powerful and liberating. Feminism is about knowing who you are and the impact you’re going to make to change the way people view the role of feminity. Feminism is essentially being a bad ass bitch, and owning that shit!

Breaking barriers is something us Black women do on the daily.

With March being a month to celebrate all things woman, from our historical imprints in changing cultural values, to redefining the woman in modern context, OpenYourThoughts is bring a March madness full of notable women, kicking ass and making a change!

Breaking barriers is something us Black women do on the daily. It’s noy easy being a woman, and an African American woman at that, but it’s an identity worn with pride. Laverne Cox is a symbol of fierce Black girl magic! We all know her from Orange Is The New Black, a transgender icon, nominated for an Emmy, witty, charismatic and of course a bad ass feminist. To grow up with struggles of gender identity and to be living in your truth unapologetically everyday is courageous and  legendary. With the feminist movement in conjunction with the LBGTQ movement, Cox has become a figure of liberation.

Black women are not often told that we’re beautiful unless we align with certain standards. Trans women certainly are not told we’re beautiful. Seeing a black transgender woman embracing and loving everything about herself might be inspiring to some other folks. There’s beauty in the things we think are imperfect.
